As winter
finally folds its algid wings, the team of Bierkraft announces warmer
days with a vibrant vernal celebration: the First Annual Bierkraft Oyster
Shuck and Cask Fest on Saturday April 16th 2011 will inaugurate
the store’s very own beer garden with a cornucopia of fresh ideas.
Enter Bierkraft,
walk along the nave flanked with a myriad of bottles, past the bar and the
beers-on-tap checkered chalkboard; squeezing through the store’s bottleneck,
you emerge under the skies again, in a little backyard tucked away from the
humming streets.
Adorned with
wooden tables, a truncated telephone pole in guise of a bench, and a makeshift
bar under a clambering ivy, Park Slope’s newest biergarten will appear
as a little haven to revel in fine craft brews, wholesome gourmet food and
congenial vibes in this greener side of Brooklyn. As spring turns into summer,
this secluded garden promises to get more colorful and balmy still, with
blooming flowers, fragrant herbs, climbing hop vines and other verdant
ornaments.
Sheltered in
a corner, you might get a peek at Bierkraft’s own homebrew machine, a
testament to the staff’s true passion beyond the business itself: to experience
and share the mystery of beer, from an idea, to the transmutation of its
fundamental elements into an earthly nectar.
Set against
the garden’s edge, ten different cask-conditioned beers (unfiltered and
unpasteurized) will rival to pair the hops and roasted malts with the cooling, oceanic flavors of fresh
oysters. Harking back to 19th century England pubs and their
tradition of serving the common snack food of oyster with stouts, Kelso of Brooklyn has delivered an exclusive Oyster Stout
for the event, bringing a lingering touch of brine and slight minerality - a
splendid blend with the roast bite in the dark ale. And to push the matching
game even further, you can even experiment with oyster shooters…
Of significance this month as well is Bierkraft co-owner Ben Granger’s
first beer release, Grant. Inspired by the memory of a family ancestor
notorious for his fiery temperament, the beer is a dry, toasty and flamboyant Belgian
red ale, the result of a creative collaboration with a Belgium brewery. Be sure
to taste this Bierkraft original.
Saturday
April 16th 2011, from noon till 10pm. The word is out. Come along!
